3 killed in crash with ambulance Three people were killed early Sept. 16 in Forestville after a sport utility vehicle and a Prince George County ambulance collided, police said. The crash occurred shortly after midnight in the 5600 block of Marlboro Pike, said Sgt. Michelle Reedy, a spokeswoman for the Prince George County Police Department. The SUV was traveling southbound on Marlboro Pike when it crossed the double yellow line on Marlboro Pike and was headed for a head on collision with the ambulance, Reedy said. The ambulance, which was en route to a report of an overdose, had its emergency lights and siren on and had to swerve to avoid a head up collision, said Mark Brady, the Prince George County Fire/EMS spokesman. The SUV then sideswiped the ambulance, and hit a fence, a brick wall and a utility pole before it flipped over and landed upside down on the roadway. Cpl. Erica Johnson said the driver of the SUV was at fault, but it is not yet clear if alcohol, drugs or speed was a factor. The crash remains under investigation. The three people in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene, Reedy said. The two paramedics, who did not suffer any serious injuries, were taken to an area hospital and have been released, Reedy said. The ambulance, which was not carrying any patients, was totaled. Medical equipment from the ambulance was stripped out of the ambulance and landed in the roadway. The total loss estimate for both the ambulance and the equipment onboard is $200,000, Brady said. From the beginning of the year through the end of August, fire/EMS department vehicles have been involved in 86 non preventable and 56 preventable collisions, according to Major Erroll George.
